McGowan Grove
The McGowan grove is a 180 acre Old growth Douglas Fir forest in the Mohawk Research Natural Area about 20 miles northeast of Eugene Oregon. The large Douglas fir trees are about 350 years old. The ancient trees have survived several natural fires and wind storms to create a old growth ecosystem.
The forest is managed by the Bureau of Land Management for the continued use of the area for research that will add to the understanding of how old growth forest ecosystems evolve over time.
