After the Rain

By the turn of the century, “steam donkeys” replaced oxen and horses logging  fir, cedar, and hemlock forest of the Pacific Northwest region.  Steam donkey’s yarded logs to temporary rail lines.  The logs were loaded on flat cars and hauled down grade to local saw mills.  After the logging was completed the tracks were pulled and moved to the next logging site.

Today you can find some of the old “grades” and railroad trestles.  With a little imagination you can almost smell the locomotive smoke and hear the steam whistles filtering through the trees and echoing off the surrounding hills.

The road is an old railroad grade abandoned in the 1930’s.
